Venue for the scientific programme

The FEBS Advanced Course will be hosted at two emblematic institutions of the University of Padua: the Botanical Garden of Padua and the Museum of the History of Medicine (MUSME), both deeply rooted in the scientific and cultural heritage of the city.

Founded in 1545, the Botanical Garden of Padua is the oldest academic botanical garden in the world still located in its original site and is recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Conceived as a place for the study of medicinal plants, it represents the historical foundation of experimental biology, pharmacology, and medical sciences in Europe. Its unique setting, combining historical structures with state-of-the-art research facilities, provides an inspiring environment for scientific discussion and exchange.

The Museum of the History of Medicine (MUSME) is housed in the former San Francesco Hospital, one of the earliest teaching hospitals in Europe. Through innovative and interactive exhibits, the Museum documents the evolution of medical knowledge from the Middle Ages to modern biomedical science, with particular emphasis on the pivotal role of the University of Padua in shaping contemporary medicine.

The programme of the FEBS Advanced Course will include dedicated opportunities for participants to visit and experience both venues. Hosting the course across these sites offers a rare opportunity to engage in cutting-edge scientific discussions within spaces that embody the origins and continuity of biomedical research. The combination of historical significance, academic excellence, and architectural beauty makes this setting particularly conducive to reflection, networking, and the generation of new ideas.
